Movie Review: Escape from the Planet of the Apes (Three stars)

This 1971 science-fiction movie is the second sequal to the 1968 hit, Planet of the Apes. In this chapter of the epic Apes saga, the space-shuttle commanded by Colonel George Taylor crashes off the coast of Zuma beach, in 20th-Century California. When three figures emerge from the shuttle, the general of the U.S. army greets them with a salute, but they are in for a surprise that they never expected: the three alien figures are apes.
     These three apes are none other than Dr. Cornelius (Roddy McDowall ) and Dr. Zira (Kim Hunter) , the scientists who had helped Taylor regain his liberties one the horrifying the Planet of the Apes, and their friend Dr. Milo, who re-invented the timetraveling abilities of Taylor's space-shuttle. When the apes reveal to the world that they have the the ability to speak, the United States is thrown into a turmoil.
     After the sudden death of Dr. Milo, Cornelius and Zira are fawned over by the people of the country, and made instant celebrities.
     But the happiness was not to last. When Zira announces that she is pregnant, Washington D.C. is unsure of what to do. The president's advisors reccomend that the birth be stopped, but the two doctors (Bradford Dillman and Natalie Trundy ) insist that there must be a better way. Finally, in an epic climax that changed the face of movie history, Zira and Cornelius are shot down, along with their newborn baby. But, unbeknowst to the authorities, the young ape who was shot is not the real child of the two time-traveling apes, and the real one is alive and well....
